NCC has started a campaign to raise money to assist the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Doctors Without Borders in their efforts to support refugees. NCC has donated SEK 1 260,000 (approximately EUR 129,000) and wants to encourage its employees to donate too. The money we raise will be divided evenly between UNHCR and Doctors Without Borders. We welcome all contributions from our employees, business partners and Associates.

UNHCR spearheads the work to protect children and families who have been forced to flee their homes due to war and persecution – a job that has never been more relevant than it is today. Due to war and persecution in Syria, Afghanistan and Eritrea, millions of people are now being forced to leave everything they have to make the treacherous journey to safety. Hundreds of thousands of these people are risking their lives in a desperate attempt to reach Europe. When World War II ended 70 years ago, much of Europe’s population was displaced. This was when UNHCR began its work. Virtually no European country was spared. The need for help was enormous, even by today’s standards. UNHCR fights for the rights of refugees, providing them with life-saving emergency assistance and a safer future.

Doctors Without Borders has worked to support migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in Europe for 15 years. In addition to its rescue operations at sea, which began in May 2015, the organization also provides healthcare, as well as psychological support at refugee centers, operates mobile clinics, distributes supplies, works to improve the living conditions of newly arrived refugees and takes care of torture victims. Doctors Without Borders has medical teams in place aboard three boats, whose explicit goal is not simply to provide healthcare, but also to save the lives of people in distress at sea. As of August, they had saved more than 12,000 people. The organization does its utmost to save lives and relieve suffering wherever it is needed most. Not since World War II have so many people found themselves fleeing war, violence and poverty. From the conflicts in the Middle East and violence in Sub-Saharan Africa to the crises in Ukraine, Libya and Nigeria, more than 51 million people have been forced to leave their homes.
